PORTUGUESE WAY
BAIONA – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
The Portuguese Camino links the city of Lisbon and Santiago de Compostela. It’s one of the many pilgrimage routes that spread across Spain, France and Portugal in medieval times, and today takes hikers through historical towns and villages and rolling Portuguese countryside. From Porto city, there are 2 Camino routes to choose from. The ‘Portuguese Inland Camino’ which continues inland via the town of Tui or the ‘Portuguese Coastal Camino’ which hugs the coast passing through the popular coastal town of Baiona.
From Baiona, the Camino travels north over the Pontevedra province of Galicia through lush forest trails and the medieval towns of Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis and Padron, famous for its Padron peppers.
This 8 day trip takes in just over 115km of the Portuguese Way, with average daily walking distances of just over 23km, and allows you to obtain the Certificate of Completion (‘Compostela’) in Santiago de Compostela.
It is a well signposted route with a good range of services (cafes, restaurants) to allow for breaks. This Camino is recommended for those looking for a ‘flattish’ trail and to finish in Santiago de Compostela.
High quality 2 and 3 star hotels/Boutique Guesthouses welcome you each evening and allows for a good night’s rest while luggage transfers, 24hr phone assistance, walking notes and maps adds to the feeling of freedom and allows confidence to grow without having the stress of doing this trip independently.

"Just returned from the Portuguese coastal Camino. From start to finish Bronagh was a wealth of information that enabled us to walk this long distance. Her regular WhatsApp’s were very reassuring. Detailed information, luggage transfers and hotel selections were all excellent. This is the second time we have used Magic Hill and we look forward to using them again in 2025. We would definitely recommend this tour operator."
