14 DAY FRENCH + FINISTERRE WAY (SELF GUIDED)

SARRIA –  FINISTERRE

The quintessential, most traveled and most documented of all the Ways; the French Way, with the additional section of the Finisterre Way as the icing on the cake.

The French Way is the Way par excellence. It is the most famous route to Santiago and the most walked (in 2019, 189,937 pilgrims walked this route). From Sarria you will walk through medieval towns, meadows, small villages, past rivers and eucalyptus forests to arrive in the historic city of Santiago de Compostela. Here you will enjoy one day rest having time to explore this incredible city with its magnificent stone architecture, Cathedral, museums and great range of cafes, restaurants and bars.

The second stage leaves Santiago and meanders west through the medieval town of Negreira, the rural village of Olveiroa, woodland and eucalyptus forests to the stunningly beautiful coastal towns of Corcubión and Finisterre to the 0Km waymarker at the Cape of Finisterre; regarded as one of the most beautiful sunset locations in the world.

This is the perfect Camino for novice Camino walkers that have the extra time for a two week trip. It is the best signposted Camino route with a great range of services (cafes, restaurants etc) to allow for breaks. It is also recommended for those looking to meet other pilgrims and enjoy the social aspect of the Camino. Daily distances are an average of 20.9km.

As part of this trip you’ll find featured 13 nights in comfortable locally-owned 2/3 hotels or rural guesthouses with breakfasts and luggage transport between accommodation. Around-the-clock emergency assistance is also included which adds confidence to the detailed walking route notes that cover landmarks, distances and interesting things to see over the course of your walk.

Alongside the sense of achievement and numerous chances to taste the local Galician food, this walking trip also allows you to qualify for two pilgrim’s certificates for both the French Way (Compostela) and Finisterre Way (Fisterrana).

Quote of the day:

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.”

Mark Twain
