PREMIUM FRENCH WAY (SELF GUIDED)
SARRIA – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
The French Way – the quintessential, most traveled and most documented of all the Camino routes to Santiago de Compostela.
It runs from the eastern side of the Pyrenees at Saint Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in the Northwest of Spain, a distance of 780km. This route follows earlier Roman trade routes and traverses the Pyrenees, beech and pine forests of Navarre, the vineyards of La Rioja, the Meseta of Castile until it reaches the mountains and oak/chestnut forests of Galicia.
This 8 day trip from Sarria will take you through fairy tale like forests, quaint Galician hamlets, open countryside and historical towns to end at Plaza Obradorio in front of the spectacular Cathedral of Santiago in the medieval city of Santiago de Compostala. It is the perfect option for novice Camino walkers as it is the best signposted route and has a great range of services (cafes, restaurants etc) along the trail. It is also recommended for those looking to meet other pilgrims and enjoy the social aspect of the Camino.
As part of this trip, you’ll find featured 7 nights in beautiful 4 and 5 star hotels and comfortable locally-owned rural guesthouses with breakfasts and luggage transport between accommodation. Around-the-clock emergency assistance is also included which adds confidence to the detailed walking notes that cover landmarks, distances and things to see over the course of your walk.
Alongside the sense of achievement and numerous chances to taste the local Galician food, this walking trip entitles you to receive the pilgrim’s certificate of completion or ‘Compostela’.

"Magic Hill has coordinated three French way caminos for me. Bronagh and her team are knowledgeable, immediate to respond and they have great connections along the way. They helped us solve surprise problems like cancelled flights, lost belongings and other requests with grace and speed. Great experience!"
"Magic Hill were fantastic at looking after me when I hurt my back on day 2 of my holiday. I could not have asked for more. Bronagh and the team were brilliant and made what was a tough week bearable. I would definitely recommend Magic Hill to anyone planning the Camino. You will not find a better company to look after you."
"I recently came back from an incredible trip to the Camino De Santiago with my father and chose a Magic Hill package that started in Sarria. It was beyond what I could have imagined. Before the trip, the team spent time reviewing all the notes for the trip even though everything was sent with such detail and precision. They went over and above and beyond to make sure every single detail was carefully managed. When I arrived in Spain, it was as if we were held the entire time from our thoughtful itinerary to the selection of gorgeous lodging, to the transfer service. Everything was seamless and well-curated and chosen. I went on the trip with my 72 year old father so I was worried a bit about his ability to feel comfortable and he too, walked away with an immense amount of gratitude and appreciation for how incredible the trip was planned. This was hands down the absolute most seamless and beautifully organized trip I’ve ever been on - from every single stop along the way, the taxi coordination, and to the end. We are so grateful to this team for creating a magical trip for us! I walked away from this experience having gained an even greater and closer connection with my father and myself. Will forever be grateful to your team and company. Thank you so much!!"
"Just wanted to say we had a terrific holiday and will definitely be coming to Magic Hill again in the future. We recommend anyone thinking of doing the camino to use Magic Hill. The experience was brilliant. Thanks again we will be back."
Quote of the day:
