FRENCH WAY (SELF GUIDED)
ARZUA – SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
The French Way is the quintessential, most traveled and most documented of all the Camino routes.
Running from the eastern side of the Pyrennes at Saint Jean Pied de Port to Santiago de Compostela in the Northwest of Spain, the French Way is the Way par excellence. It is the most famous route to Santiago and the most walked (in 2018, 186,199 pilgrims from all over the world reached Santiago).
During the Middle Ages, the French Way was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages. It follows earlier Roman trade routes and traverses the Pyrennes, beech and pine forests of Navarre, the vineyards of La Rioja, the meseta of Castile until it reaches the mountains and the oak and chestnut forests of Galicia.
Our 4 day trip runs from Arzua to the Cathedral in Santiago through quaint rural hamlets, meadows and eucalyptus forests. It is the perfect Camino for those short of time and who would like a ‘taste’ of the experience before embarking on a longer route. This section is well signposted and has a good range of services (cafes, restaurants etc) for rest breaks. Please note: You will not be entitled to receive a Compostela as you need to walk a minimum of 100km.
As part of this trip you’ll find featured 3 nights in comfortable locally-owned 2/3 hotels or rural guesthouses with breakfasts and luggage transport between accommodation. Around-the-clock emergency assistance is also included which adds confidence to the detailed walking notes that cover landmarks, distances and things to see over the course of your walk.
Optional extras include: airport transfers, an upgrade to the 5 Star Parador Hotel in Santiago and an additional ‘free day’ to explore the incredible Old Quarter of Santiago de Compostela.

“Highly recommend using ‘Magic Hill’ to organise your Camino experience. Outstanding service. Bronagh was amazing – so friendly, helpful, no question too silly, excellent communication from start to finish. She booked us the most beautiful accommodation which really made our experience so enjoyable. Everything was so stress free all thanks to her fantastic organisation: transport, luggage transfers, accommodation bookings, lists of local restaurant/cafe/bar for each place we stayed, maps, guidebooks and Camino preparation information pack prior to the trip to help us prepare. Honestly the best decision we ever made was to book through ‘Magic Hill’. It was the first time my dad and I ever went on holiday just the two of us and we both enjoyed it so much that we wished we had booked for a longer period of time and now we both intend to do it again maybe next year. We loved our daily walks through beautiful forests and farmlands along the French way and our evenings spent sampling local food & wine. Doing a section of the Camino together was truly was such a wonderful experience for us. Thanks Bronagh”

“The standard of accommodation was outstanding. The ease of having bags sent ahead with just one label attached on Day 1. The security of having a 24 hour help line. The detailed walking notes. The enthusiasm displayed by Bronagh and Victor for the walks they provide shows their first hand knowledge of the terrain, accommodation and local information.”
Bridie O’Callaghan, Armagh, Northern Ireland – September 2019
