Spain 8 Day Primitive Way Lugo – Santiago De Compostela

The Primitive Way is the oldest Camino de Santiago trail.

It runs from the city of Oviedo in Asturias to Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, a distance of approximately 370km. The Primitive Way is the original Camino route as it is was the path taken by the first reported pilgrim, King of Asturias, Alfonso II when he went to visit the newly discovered tombstone of the apostle St James in the 9th century.

The section from Lugo takes in the final 100kms, through the provinces of Lugo and A Corunna, into Santiago de Compostela and merges with the French way in the village of Melide, famous for its octopus.

This 8 day trip is ideal for those who would like to end the Camino in Santiago de Compostela but want to start in a different place to the popular town of Sarria on the French Way. This trail offers beautiful scenery and the experience of travelling through relatively remote areas. Please note this is a hilly section with plenty of ups and downs but it allows for a relaxed pace with average daily distances of 20km.

As part of this eight day Primitive Way walking holiday, you’ll find featured seven nights in comfortable 2 and 3 star accommodation with breakfasts as well as luggage transportation between accommodation. Don’t forget to bring a day pack and refillable water bottle. Around-the-clock emergency assistance is also included which adds confidence to the walking route notes that cover landmarks, distances and things to see over the course of five days walking.

Day 2 – Lugo to Ferreira (26.5km)

Day 3 – Ferreira to Melide (20km)

Day 4 – Melide to Arzúa (14.5km)

Day 5 – Arzúa to O Pedrouzo (18.5km)

Day 6 – O Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela (20.5km)

Day 7 – Free day in Santiago de Compostela

Day 8 – Departure day from Santiago de Compostela
