12 DAY FRENCH WAY
LEON – SARRIA
The French Way is the most famous Camino route to Santiago. It runs from the eastern side of the Pyrenees at SJPP to Santiago de Compostela in the Northwest of Spain, extending to a distance of 780km.
This 12 day walking experience takes you over the fifth section of the French Way from the beautiful city of Leon, court and burial place for the Kings of Leon to the town of Sarria in Galicia, where the majority of modern day pilgrims start their Camino journey to Santiago.
You will leave the city of Leon westwards towards the towns of Astorga, an old Roman city with fascinating architecture including the Gaudí designed Palace. Continue along a flat route of country roads and walking paths to Ponferrada and Villafranca del Bierzo. Leave the Castilla and León region and the high plains of El Camino to enter Galicia, the northwestern region, with its Celtic history and hilly landscapes. Climb up to O Cebreiro, an old Celtic village at 1,300m, where pilgrims customarily place a stone at the ‘cruceiro’, or stone cross, for good luck. Descend to Triacastela and on to the final town; Sarria.
This trip is ideal for people who walked the previous four sections of the Camino from Saint Jean Pied de Port to Leon and wish to continue to Santiago de Compostela, as they complete the entire Camino in stages over a number of years.
As part of this trip, you will stay 11 nights in Boutique Guesthouses with private bathroom ensuite and up to 3 star hotels with breakfast and luggage transport between your accommodation. Around-the-clock emergency assistance is also included which adds confidence to the detailed walking notes which covers landmarks, distances and things to see over the course of your walk.

"Working with magic hill holidays for my Camino Frances was the best decision I could have made. Their thorough attention to detail, carefully curated itinerary, personal service and true true compassion made me feel confident every step of the Way. No matter what it was I needed, they were there - from pep talks to directions to suggestions to accommodations - there is no way I could ever say enough positive words about them. I felt singularly cared for and had not a single worry about the where the when the how - There expertise allowed me to sink into my Camino and put my full emotional and physical attention into the task at hand - walking reflecting experiencing it all. Even when I had finished my full Camino they came through with assistance when I had questions about my additional travel through Spain. Thoughtful touches and genuine care for their pilgrims, magic hill can’t be beat. Highly highly highly recommend!!!"
"Had the most magical experience on the Camino which was made all the more special by Magic Hill who go over and above to ensure you have the best experience. I can’t recommend Magic Hill highly enough and can’t wait to book my next Camino trip, I would not use anyone else."
"Many thanks Magic Hill, it has been an amazing adventure and experience. Thank you for all the excellent organisation!"
Quote of the day:
“Twenty years from now you’ll be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than the things you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
Mark Twain
